Florian Scala has stepped down as CEO of bTV, and Martin Schwehlak has been appointed to this role as of today.
Schwehlak takes on the role of CEO with exceptional and in-depth knowledge in a variety of media areas, as well as managerial experience spanning television, print, and the Internet and digital platforms. As CEO, Schwehlak, born in the Czech Republic, will report directly to Lubos Jetmar, CEO of CME Bulgaria.
2020 was full of challenges for the entire media industry, as well as for bTV. The company has been in the process of acquisition for most of the year and, in combination with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is not surprising that some of the power has been lost. My intention is to inject new energy into our content and program and modernize our digital distribution so that the Bulgarian audience gets the best experience, said newly appointed CEO of bTV Media Group, Martin Schwehlak.
Yetmar, as CEO of CME Bulgaria, will ensure continuity on all issues and will work with Schwehlak for better results.
After taking over the company in October, I identified several topics and initiatives that PPF could add value to. Martin will focus on modernizing our content, program, formats and digital channels, and I am confident that we will be able to address all other ideas and strengthen our position, Yetmar said.
“We thank Mr. Skala and wish him the same success he achieved at bTV and in his future endeavors,” he added.

Schwehlak was the head of news for TV Nova in the Czech Republic from 2013 to 2018, and under his leadership, television maintained its position as the most respected and viewed television news source. He has also been a member of the CME International News Commission and has worked with all CME structures on editorial coverage, content, and programming initiatives. Schwechlak will be traveling from Prague but intends to spend more time in Sofia than in his hometown of Prague.
