The Plovdiv Administrative Court insists that the Mayor of Kaloyanovo Municipality, Georgi Georgiev, cannot take office. The magistrates reversed the decision of the municipal electoral commission, which ruled that the governor could carry out his duties despite his sentence.
On November 12, Georgiev signed an agreement with the prosecutor’s office, approved by the Hills District Court, granting him 8 months of probation with 3 years of probation. His book has been a year and a half.
The local self-government law is categorical in that if there is an effective sentence, the mayor cannot take office. However, Georgiev continued to work and this led Krassimir Dimov of Sukhozem to refer the matter to the Administrative Court. Previously, he appealed to the municipal electoral commission in Kaloyanovo, but four of them refused to comply with the decision of the magistrates, so the required majority was not achieved. Now, the Administrative Court of Plovdiv annuls the act of the MEC.
On November 10, the mayor of Kaloyanovo was caught driving after using cocaine and spent 24 hours in custody. Two days later, he reached an agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office, agreeing to a sentence of 8 months in prison.
