Road conditions are calm
In the last days in the Rhodopes it is a real winter. Despite heavy snowfall, no further restrictions were imposed today. The good news is that this Saturday in Pamporovo they open the season.
The higher a person climbs in the Rhodopes, the deeper the snow. The snow diaper in Pamporovo, at the foot of Snezhanka peak, is about 40 centimeters thick. Hotels and slopes are quiet. However, the opening of the ski area is on December 19.
“There is 70 centimeters of snow in Snezhanka. We look forward to the inauguration. The snow is perfect,” says Assen.
For Atanas Karabelov and his machine, this means busy roads. He’s one of the people in charge of snow removal at the station.
Throughout the day the snowplow continued to wind its way through the narrow alleys of Pamporovo. There will also be work at night.
Outside the complex, the national network snowplows in the Smolyan region are also clearing since dawn. The three main passes – “Rozhen”, “Pamporovo” and “Prevala” are passable and without additional restrictions. Before noon, while it was raining heavily, there were slippery areas that required more attention.
The rains are expected to gradually stop at midnight. However, in the morning it will be cold with possible icing in the highlands.
