The Bulgarian government and Prime Minister Boyko Borissov are hiding the US decision to impose tough sanctions on Russia and companies involved in the construction of the Turkish / Balkan streams and Nord Stream-2.
For several days, no one in power has mentioned that on December 9 and 20 the House of Representatives in the United States Congress decided to stop the construction of the two Russian projects, one to Germany and the other through Bulgaria. Especially for the Turkish / Balkan flow, the Americans insist that it will stop by all means in response to Ankara and Russia for the agreement to supply Turkey with a Russian S-400 missile system. This was reported by TASS and the German DPA, cited by frognews.bg.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on Washington’s decision, calling it anti-Russian. He added that Moscow would not suspend work on the pipelines and will not comply with US sanctions.
In Germany, however, observers are convinced that Nord Stream will not be completed.
So far there is no reaction from Sofia. People familiar with the matter suggest that Borissov is trying to maneuver between Moscow, Washington and Ankara. However, the authorities of the three countries are aware of their tricks and it is possible that at some point one of the parties will react abruptly. The Russian edition eadaily.com announced in April that the gas pipeline through Bulgaria should be ready by the end of May, but construction is being deliberately delayed. Later, it became clear that the builders and equipment were in fact Russian and were strictly guarded on Bulgarian territory.
