It is normal for people to be fearful of the potential side effects of COVID-19 vaccines due to their rapid onset, but there is currently no evidence of harm from the drugs.

This was announced on bTV by Dr. Andrey Mladenov, who is president of the Bulgarian Society in Freiburg and is a consultant on pharmaceutical regulations. For 13 months he worked as a consultant for Biontech, the company that is working with Pfizer to develop a vaccine for COVID-19.

“There is no information that vaccines cause serious illnesses or side effects. Despite rapid development, we must not forget that regulatory agencies do this: they weigh risk against benefits,” said Dr. Mladenov.

According to him, regulatory authorities have done a good job with applicants awaiting a marketing authorization. In case of possible side effects after vaccination, the manufacturer is responsible.

“The theories that these companies are exempt from liability, that they will not pay compensation to the victims, are speculations and should not be taken into account,” added the expert.

Dr. Mladenov made a comparison between anti-epidemic measures in Bulgaria and Germany. He pointed out that it is not reasonable for restrictions in our country to be relaxed before the holidays. According to him, people in Germany understand the measures and are against organizing a “party during the plague”.
