Kubrat Pulev showed character and fighting spirit, but failed to dethrone Anthony Joshua in the heavyweight category of professional boxing. The Bulgarian lasted nine rounds against the British machine, and 2:15 minutes after the start of the round he was eliminated by the defending world champion.
The 31-year-old Briton, eight younger than Pulev, appears to have learned a lesson from the Andy Ruiz fiasco and showed excellent discipline and strategy, which barely broke down.
The Bulgarian boxer also deserves the necessary respect, as he showed great endurance and although he was knocked out, he did not miss the opportunity to attack the opponent, enduring almost nine full rounds.
This was the second loss in Pulev’s professional career after Vladimir Klitschko’s in 2014.
Both fighters started cautiously in the first round, more than a minute from the end before Joshua’s left-to-right punch, and Kubrat responded with a left hook, trying to close the gap with feints. The cautious strategy remained available to both of them, they kept their distance in the second round – Pulev tried to pressure the opponent against the ropes, but was surprised by a powerful right uppercut. The cobra mainly attacked with his left hand, but found good defense, as Anthony visibly made better shots.
The third round was one of the key moments. Joshua knocked down his opponent twice with powerful right hooks, with which he broke the Bulgarian defense and dropped Pulev. The verbal banter peaked early in the fourth round, AJ dictated the pace with good combinations, and Kubrat was still shaking. However, he managed to land two strong blows and came back to life, finishing offensively.

The champion kept keeping his distance and attacking moderately, waiting for a convenient moment. Cobra’s blows fell mainly on Joshua’s body. The Bulgarian finished the fifth round strong with a right left.

The Bulgarian challenger safely advanced with a series of punches in the sixth round and even landed a right left to Joshua’s face, forcing him into the clinch. The seventh round began with a new clinch, provoked by AJ. After that, however, the British superstar rocked Pulev with several brutal uppercuts to get a left right and hook in return.

The two continued to wait for a convenient moment to attack in the eighth round. Pulev landed a strong forehand straight, but received two powerful hooks, and then Joshua folded late in the round.
In the ninth round, the Bulgarian was looking for a hole in the opponent’s defense, but this never happened. So key uppercuts were important here too: Joshua attacked again with several back-to-back shots, which hit home and sent Kubrat in the third knockdown. He got to his feet, but was knocked out 2:15 minutes after the start of the round, for which the match ended with a right hook from AJ.

The fight was viewed from the front row by the living legend of professional boxing and the most profitable boxer in the history of the sport: Floyd Mayweather Jr., who currently serves as boxing promoter.
With his victory tonight, Joshua removed the last hurdle to the British super clash in the harshest way with Tyson Fury who immediately accepted his challenge from AJ and it is only a matter of time before the battle between the two is staged. .
