On December 9, 2020, around 12:00, the 89-year-old ID took his pension from a post office on Geo Milev street in Sofia. As he was driving down the sidewalk to the street next to him, a car stopped. The driver of the car, defendant AM, called the old man and introduced himself as the “chief cashier of the post office. The defendant explained to ID that it was possible that the cashier at the post office had given him BGN 50 less than the pension and asked them to count the amount received. DNI given to the accused to count the pension money. After counting them, AM handed some of them over to ID, and the rest of the money he collected for himself and left. ID felt that the money was less, counted it and found that the amount that the defendant had returned to him was BGN 300. Therefore, defendant AM caused material damage to the identification in the amount of BGN 400. Following the incident, the victim filed a crime report at 01 RU-SDVR.

In the same way, the 83-year-old vice president was deceived, on the same date between 10.30 and 11.00, the vice president took his pension at the Geo Milev street post office in Sofia. While walking down Slatinska Street, VP saw a car parked by the curb on the street, near which AM was. The defendant arrested VP, introduced himself as a “post office teller” and told the old man to give him another BGN 50. Then AM gave 50 BGN to VP, who started to count his money, then AM asked to make sure the amount was correct and The man quickly handed the money to the 83-year-old vice president, got into his car and drove away, when the old man counted his pension money, discovered that a sum of 300 BGN was missing. The next day, December 10, 2020, VP reported the case to 01 RU-SDVR.

The funds of the two victims were refunded: the confiscated amount of BGN 400 was returned to ID, and the confiscated amount of BGN 300 was returned to VP.

Defendant AM has been charged with both acts. He was detained for up to 72 hours by decree of an SRS supervising prosecutor.

Sofia District Attorney Nevena Zartova thanked the citizens who helped send the signal, as well as the SDVR, for the timely actions of the investigation, which led to the speedy arrest of the perpetrator and, subsequently, to press charges in his against.
