A question from the deputies who split from the BSP to Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva in parliament today turned into a geological dispute. Krassimir Yankov, Dimitar Stoyanov, Georgi Andreev, Lalo Kirilov, Nikolay Ivanov and Chavdar Velinov demanded that Bulgaria recognize the newly created state of the Principality of New Atlantis and implement a foreign policy in this regard. Zaharieva explained that the site could not be treated as land or as an island. Dimitar Stoyanov disagreed and spoke about the eighth continent.
New Atlantis is located near New Zealand and at the same time has a diplomatic mission in Sofia. In 2012, after the eruption of an underwater volcano in the Pacific Ocean, an island with an area of 27,000 square kilometers was formed, according to its discoverer, located between New Zealand, Fr. Fiji and P. Cook. Opportunities in international law allow Bulgarian Vladimir Balanov to acquire the island while it is nobody’s territory. Balanov made an expedition to conquer it – initially his idea was to make the island part of the territory of Bulgaria, our country did not react and Balanov founded a new state called New Atlantis. Balanov himself proclaimed himself prince of the new monarchy.
Today, Ekaterina Zaharieva confirmed the position of the 2014 Foreign Ministry, adding that Bulgaria does not plan to develop relations with the state and does not recognize it in any way as sovereign. He referred to the lack of any act of international recognition. Zaharieva added that the territory no longer even physically exists.
“A low-density and significant size temporary floating pumice formation immediately began to gradually dissolve in the ocean, a process studied by several scientists and published in scientific journals,” he explained. Zaharieva recommended to the deputies who asked the question to contact the Strashimir Dimitrov Geological Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, according to which the entity no longer exists.
According to discoverer Valentin Balanov, the island’s natural resources are estimated at more than $ 5 trillion. MP Dimitar Stoyanov emphasized this even today from the parliamentary rostrum, addressing Zaharieva with the words “God gives, but does not put in the manger.” He explained that he did not consider possible to obtain possible economic benefits for Bulgaria.
