Control of the coronavirus will remain firm until at least the fall of next year. The forecast is from Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, after a meeting of European leaders in Brussels. And Europe is expected to be inundated by a third wave of contagion in March.
Borissov: A third wave of COVID-19 and severe restrictions await us
What this means for us: The authorities have dashed hopes of a strong easing of measures before Christmas and New Years. The recommendation is that the holidays stay in a close family circle. At this stage, the gardens and nurseries remain closed, and the decision to reopen them will likely remain until January.
To fight the virus, a large percentage of the population needs to be vaccinated. We are talking about coverage of about 70 percent of the population.
Prime Minister Borissov called for moderate optimism in Brussels. Therefore, both the distance and the discipline during the next Christmas holidays were strictly mandatory, not only in our country, but throughout Europe. The prognosis is for at least another half a year of restrictions and measures, and in case of mass vaccination. European leaders are also discussing the harmonization and recognition of PCRs and antigen tests in all Member States so as not to block the movement of people. The good news: Winter tourism and working slopes at our resorts probably will be.
Not loosening, but hardening the measures of the Old Continent in the coming months. This is the balance of Brussels.
“There is no talk of opening Europe until the end of March. In addition, a third wave and very severe restrictions are then expected,” the Prime Minister announced.
And expectations point to even more dire economic consequences.
“Everyone is very concerned about the financial and economic indicators that we are giving. The gross domestic product of the EU, of the United States is minus 10, minus 15% and that is why we asked the question and we considered the fiscal rules how they will work in the coming months ”, explained Borissov.
And based on the questions asked, antigen tests and PCRs should be recognized equally in all Member States.
“To facilitate the movement of people, business and tourism in a few months, it is of utmost importance to find common ways to unify our positions and not hinder people,” the prime minister emphasized. There is a ray of hope to control the pandemic, but very distant.
“August-October next year, provided that 70% of the population of the European Union is vaccinated,” Borissov said. Even in our country.
“70% of the population needs to be vaccinated, because for now, at our expense, 12% have found the virus and are immune and will not be infected,” explained Professor Todor Kantardzhiev.
Prof. Kantardjiev: In January we expect the first vaccinated in Bulgaria
Borissov assured that we are already equipped with freezers for the first vaccine. The headquarters predicts that the first vaccinated in our country will be a fact in January. According to the headquarters, the small percentage of doctors who wanted to be vaccinated is worrying. But you had an explanation.
“Some of them are deeply convinced that they have already been through the disease working with these patients. Each one has an individual option and decides whether to get vaccinated or not, “said the virologist.
And the news that more Bulgarians have been cured in recent days did not mean relaxing during the holidays, Borissov warned.
“The results are good, but they do not show that we should be very optimistic that the pandemic in Bulgaria will end at Christmas.” Christmas, the New Year for the European Union should be in the closest family circle, without mass gatherings, “he said. And yet, there will be no lock for winter tourism.
Professor Kantardzhiev admitted that if stricter measures had been taken earlier, the situation with the current morbidity could have been different. The good news is that there has not yet been a single case of flu in Bulgaria.
