30,000 BGN is the largest amount delivered together
A new successful case in the fight against this type of crime, said chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev.
The special prosecutor’s office and the national police crushed another ring of phone scammers operating from Romania. Three, including the Tatar, were arrested yesterday in a Bucharest shelter.
Another three, who were his mules, were captured in Pernik and Sofia. The characteristic of the group leader, who was not convicted, was that he was very active. He was looking for the mules, but also the victims.
The scammers acted according to the well-known scheme: assistance to the police, said the head of the special prosecutor Valentina Madjarova.
All the victims were from Bulgaria. The highest amount given to scammers was BGN 30,000.
So far 8 victims have been identified, but prosecutor Madjarova explained that the number of victims will increase. Damage is estimated at around BGN 150,000. The group has been operating since 2019.
Yesterday 14 addresses were searched, one of them in Romania, 12 cars. They found 90 phones and more than 100 SIM cards, money and jewelry.
“Scammers are practicing the profession,” prosecutor Madjarova said when asked what the detainees were doing. The detainees lived in luxuriously furnished houses and drove expensive cars. The DNC will inspect your homes.
The head of the National Police, Nikolay Hadjiev, again called on people to be careful.
SDVR Director Georgi Hadjiev noted that the number of scammers in Sofia has drastically decreased. In 2019, they were around 200, and for this, 17.
In September, however, an 11-year-old girl handed over 3,000 BGN to criminals again under the police assistance scheme.
“A new successful case in the fight against this type of crime!” This was what Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev wrote on his Twitter account on the occasion of the broken band of telephone scammers.
“In just a few years, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Interior Ministry have drastically reduced the number of telephone scams. A problem that has been unsolved for decades.
He expressed special thanks to the President of Eurojust, Ladislav Hamran, the Romanian Attorney General, Gabriela Scutea, and all the magistrates working on the case.
