Bulgarian handball player Veselka Kalakunova has died at the age of 30 in Spain. This was reported by the local media eldia.es. She is a former player for the Salud Terrenife team, for which she played for 10 seasons.

The Karlovo-born athlete has developed a brain tumor, which was discovered for the second time after she was successfully operated on by the same entity.

Kalakunova has been battling cancer since August 7, 2016, the day she suffered facial paralysis and epileptic seizures. The hospital found he had a fist-sized tumor, which turned out to be malignant, the publication also reported. He underwent brain surgery and even returned to the field three years ago.

Last November, however, she was again diagnosed with a brain tumor that destroyed her. Tenerife Handball Club expressed its condolences to his relatives:

“On behalf of the club of which she became captain, we want to join in the grief of all her family and friends, for her loss, to whom we send all our love. Rest in peace, Veselka Nenkova Kalakunova!”
