30-year-old handball player Veselka Kalakunova passed away today in Spain after a 4-year battle with a brain tumor, local website eldia.es reported.
Karlovka, who was born on April 9, 1990, lives and plays in the Canary Islands since 2007. He was a fundamental part of the “Tenerife” handball team, for which he competed for 10 seasons. Until the fatal August 7, 2016, when Veselka suffered an epileptic seizure and facial paralysis.
The Bulgarian woman was taken to a hospital, where doctors found a fist-sized tumor in her brain in early October this year. Veselka underwent a 9-hour operation to remove the tumor, after which she underwent chemotherapy and radiation therapy for five weeks.
In December 2016, after several MRIs, Spanish doctors announced that the handball player had beaten a brain tumor and could return to normal life.
Unfortunately, in November 2019 a relapse was established. Veselka underwent chemotherapy again, but today she lost the battle for life.
