Yesterday, the man who was part of the pension of Ivan Dechev, 89 years old, about whom we told you in the news on Wednesday, was arrested. This was announced on the air of “Hello, Bulgaria” by the secretary general of the Ministry of the Interior Ivaylo Ivanov.
“He had gone into hiding, but after the actions he was identified and arrested. He is a repeat offender and has been convicted many times. There are eight convictions for fraud and one for robbery,” Ivanov explained.
The author of the theft is also of retirement age, specializing, according to the Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior, in a similar activity. “He was probably watching and decided to try his craft,” Ivanov added.
The stolen amount has been found and will be recovered as soon as possible.

The blatant robbery happened in broad daylight in Sofia. The 89-year-old man parted ways with BGN 400 minutes after collecting his pension at the Geo Milev district post office in Sofia.
Video cameras recorded a car stopping in the street. The scammer introduced himself as the chief cashier of the post office. He told the pensioner that they had given him 50 BGN less. The old man gave up his entire pension, but later learned that he had been the victim of fraud.
Every month Ivan Dechev, 89, receives his pension from the Geo Milev district post office in Sofia. On the way home, a gray car approaches. The driver stops and talks to the old man.
“I saw that there were papers scattered on the back seat and 50 BGN on top. The driver was quick to say ‘Grandpa, I’m the main cashier at the post office, the cashier gave you 50 BGN less for the pension.’ I started counting the money to see if it was as much as I was getting. When he saw my hands were shaking, he told me to give them to him so he could count them faster. I gave them with all my naivety. He started counting and said, “These are for you.” He also gave me 50 BGN, which was on the seat. When he returned them to me, however, I felt they were less. Then he left immediately, ”said the victim.

Seconds later, the pensioner realizes that BGN 400 is missing from the BGN 700 pension and seeks the help of the employees of a cash register, in front of which the fraudulent scheme was carried out. They are the ones who point to 112.
“The man was shaking and we were concerned for his health. You feel guilty about this. And I understand it. I don’t know which people can do that, but it also happens on a relatively busy street, ”said the store’s owner, Georgi Ivanov.
“I did not assume that there could be such tricksters. I was offended that at 89 years old I did not know what era we lived in. I do not regret the money. They eat 400 BGN, they drink 400 BGN, as popular wisdom says, but morality cannot come back, “shares Ivan.
He admits that for the first time in his life he is a victim of fraud and addresses the criminal in the following way: Because I depend on that money. He is an impersonal man. Society cannot expect something good from him, ”said the retiree.
Although the 89-year-old has already lost some of his faith in people after what happened, there are those who will try to regain it with good deeds.
“There are people who want to help you with a small amount. I know you don’t need it, but we can create a bank account to help you,” the store owner told the 89-year-old man.
