Today, on the International Day Against Corruption, we pay tribute to the individuals and organizations working to combat corruption and strengthen the rule of law.
The US Embassy is proud to support the initiative of the Anti-Corruption Fund and the America for Bulgaria Foundation, which honors several Bulgarian journalists who have contributed significantly to progress in this regard, the diplomatic mission said.
Courageous and dedicated journalists, like those who are honored today, are critical to holding governments accountable for their actions. This is true for both the United States and Bulgaria.
Bulgaria has amazing potential. It has a talented workforce and a rich cultural heritage.
However, corruption damages economic growth, worsens the unpredictable legal system, and stifles media independence.
Bulgaria can realize its potential and stimulate growth and innovation through concerted efforts to fight corruption.
We congratulate the people and organizations that fight corruption every day to build a better future for Bulgaria, concluded the US Embassy.
