Tests of the vaccine against the new coronavirus infection in the form of yogurt, developed by the Institute of Experimental Medicine, have shown that the drug gives a good result in the formation of antibodies in the mucosa and blood, reported TASS.

The vaccine belongs to the type of mucosal immunizations and is taken in the form of yogurt. As a general rule, the antigens in such preparations are encased in microcapsules, which protect them from the enzymes of the gastrointestinal tract, BTA reported.

Russian scientists led by Prof. Alexander Suvorov, conducted experiments on laboratory animals. The advantage of the vaccine is that it elicits a maximal immune response across the mucous membranes and therefore belongs to the mucous membrane preparations. The response of laboratory animals to the formation of antibodies against the coronavirus was very good, both in blood and mucosa. Suvorov noted that the team has recorded good results in cellular immunity. In addition to the antibodies, the drug has generated specific T lymphocytes that kill the cell infected with the coronavirus. According to him, this is a very important element for the creation of an effective vaccine, and it is present in the method developed with yogurt.
