The cause of the unknown disease, which has caused panic among residents of the Indian city of Eluru in Andhra Pradesh state, may be the increased content of heavy metals in drinking water and milk in the region. This is stated in a press release from the office of Chief Minister of State Jagan Mohan Reddy, BTA reported.
Elevated levels of lead, nickel, and pesticides were found in patients with the unknown disease. The data obtained is still preliminary and is subject to further verification by the Indian Medical Research Institute.
