At 8:00 am tomorrow, December 6, traffic will be allowed on the direct route 1.7 km from the South Arc of the Sofia Ring Road, in the section between the “Mladost” and “Gorublyane” road junctions, reports RIA . The section is part of the 6 km reconstruction of the ring road between the Mladost Highway and Trakia.

The objective is to facilitate travel during the winter months and increase safety, explained the highway agency.

However, the traffic begins with temporary organization, temporary road marking and only next year will the last layer of worn asphalt be laid and all the finishing works will be carried out.

At the beginning of November, again with the explanation that it facilitates travel, the 2.5 kilometer section of the South Arc was launched with a temporary organization of traffic, from the connection with the Trakia highway to the German road junction. The traffic on the section is 3 lanes for traffic in each direction, and at the “Lozen” road junction the local lanes are also used.

With the extension of more than 6 km of the Sofia ring road, which started in October last year, the existing two-lane road is rebuilt into a 6-lane lane with a central dividing strip, dividing strips between the premises and the direct route, 2 local lanes and sidewalks. The new route will provide a connection between the Struma and Trakia highways, facilitate transit traffic from the Europa Highway and the connection with the border crossings with Turkey and Greece.

The investment is 142.7 million BGN with VAT and comes from the national budget. The contractor is GBS Infrastructure Construction. The deadline for project completion under the contract is the end of 2021, but at the rate at which the builders are working, the site is expected to be completed sooner.
