On December 10, the EU Justice Commissioner, Didier Reynders, will hold a virtual debate with the Bulgarian Parliament on the report’s recommendations for our country on the new horizontal mechanism for the rule of law.
In an interview with BNR Commissioner Reinders said he would like to know how the government’s action plan has implemented the reforms for which recommendations have been made:
“It is one thing to have an action plan, and quite another to see that the reforms are actually working. To give a concrete example, we have comments on the role of the Attorney General in many Member States. It is clear that in Bulgaria we want to see that the provisions for your liability have been completed. “
Reinders also said that the issue of media ownership and freedom in Bulgaria is as important as the recommendations of the judiciary and that he would insist on clear responses from the Bulgarian authorities in this regard:
“We would like the responses that will be given to pay as much attention from the Bulgarian authorities to progress towards greater transparency of media ownership, as given in the action plan in the field of justice.”
The Justice Commissioner also clarified that talks will be held on the fight against corruption and protests in Bulgaria.
