Valerie Giscard d’Estaing was born in Koblenz, Germany, on February 2, 1926.
His father was a civil servant and his mother was the daughter of a senator and academic, great-granddaughter of the Minister of Education, granddaughter of a historian and niece of a diplomat, as well as the great-great-great-granddaughter of Louis XV through one of his lovers.
On October 22, 2006, Valerie Giscard d’Estaing was appointed an honorary citizen of her hometown of Koblenz.
