Protest by carriers on the Turkish border. Representatives of the Bulgarian and Turkish parties are unhappy with the long wait for trucks to enter Bulgaria, which takes more than three days. Today they held a symbolic protest at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint.
The problem of the long wait is on the Turkish side to enter Bulgaria. Most of the trucks remain there for almost four days in the parking lots along with thousands of other drivers. This period is practically twice the time it takes to reach their final destinations in Western Europe.
PROTEST IN SILISTRA: People do not let trucks pass through border control
Analysis of carriers on both sides of the border shows that faster processing can be assisted in the first instance by hiring additional border and customs officials. Another problem is that employee shifts on the Bulgarian and Turkish sides run at different times, leading to additional traffic stops.
According to the Turkish Automobile Association, there are more than 3,700 trucks in the parking lots before Kapakule. Every day, nearly 3,000 trucks pass Kapitan Andreevo and Lesovo in both directions, but there are many more who want to.
“There has been a significant increase in processing in the last year, but apparently as a gateway to the EU, the border with Turkey assumes a lot of interest from all carriers. It is difficult, because 3-4 days is not an acceptable time to wait, ”said the executive director of the Union of International Carriers Yordan Arabadjiev.
Representatives of the Bulgarian and Turkish carriers protested symbolically. According to them, at the beginning the wait can be cut in half with more employees at the controls.
“There are ten counters in Kapitan Andreevo, six of which are open. There are two gas inspection meters, but only one works. At the moment, we need eight additional police officers and four employees on the scale,” said Cetin Nuhoglu, president of the Turkish Automobile Association.
According to the Bulgarian authorities, the station is operating at full capacity, which has not yet increased.
“We have reached an agreement in principle with the carriers and the Turkish authorities for the construction of a new route, which is currently for oversized cargo. At the end of the year we will have a public tender for its reconstruction ”, commented the deputy director of the Territorial Directorate of the South Sea in the Customs Agency Vasil Indjov.
Until things change, drivers will continue to wait 3-4 days at the border.
Carriers remain on alert and talks will continue with the Turkish and Bulgarian authorities.
