Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed why he did not congratulate candidate Joe Biden for winning the US presidential election. The head of state announced this on the air of the TV channel “Russia 1”.
“There is no ulterior motive here or anything that is unusual or that could be the basis for further destruction of our relations,” Putin explained. The Russian leader believes that “purely formal things” should be done in accordance with established practice and based on the legal aspect of the problem.
At the same time, he noted that Russia respects the current president of the United States, Donald Trump and Joe Biden, and will work with any leader chosen by the American people. But it is necessary for one party to acknowledge the victory of the other, or the winner is determined by the final results of the election.
The American electoral system has problems, but it is up to the American people to solve them, Putin added. According to CNN, Democrat Joe Biden won the US presidential election with 306 electoral votes, while Republican Donald Trump won 232.
