The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, does not expect an agreement to be reached with Bulgaria in the coming weeks, which will unblock North Macedonia’s path to the EU, reports Sloboden Pechat.
He believes that Bulgaria has drastically changed its policy towards his country in recent months. With such a policy, according to Pendarovski, Bulgaria shows that it cannot go back to the time of Todor Zhivkov, writes the Skopje newspaper, citing Pendarovski’s statement to TV 24, BTA reported.
However, according to Pendarovski, a solution must continue to be sought, but only through scientific and historical facts, not political ones. There are no real possibilities. There are some minimal chances, but there aren’t great ones, unfortunately, the North Macedonian president said.
Pendarovski said that Bulgaria’s policy of blocking the country’s progress towards EU membership does not have the support of any EU member state. The information we have from Brussels, as Pendarovski emphasized, shows that no country or statesman supports Sofia’s official veto for the start of North Macedonia’s EU accession talks, the Skopje newspaper reported.
