A funny sketch by North Macedonia TV Channel 5 is an attempt to break the tension between the two countries, which escalated after Bulgaria’s veto on the acceptance of our western neighbors in the EU.

In the gag of the television program “Zevzekmania”, an international driver from North Macedonia goes to the local Ministry of the Interior and declares that he wants to return his Bulgarian passport, with which he has been traveling in Europe for 10 years and earns good money. “Since the problem with Sofia appeared, I want you to renounce your Bulgarian passport and never see a Bulgarian again! I want to remain Macedonian and only Macedonian!” The main character of the sketch told the employee.

“Well done, well done!” He chimed in and introduced himself as Vice Minister Oliver Spasovski. The head of the LRA screen ordered his employee to “burn down” the Bulgarian passport of the international driver. “From today, there will be no Macedonian Bulgarians, only Macedonian Macedonians,” he said.

The sketch also includes a reporter covering the event, who announces with aplomb: “What fabulous news, dear viewers! Macedonians are giving up Bulgarian passports and burning them. Heart attack and happiness!”

At the time, it became clear that a patriotism advertisement was being filmed. “Are the photos over?” Asks the international driver and wants his Bulgarian passport back. However, the interior minister told him that his colleague was a literalist and had in fact burned his document. “They’re not normal people!” The comedian continued, clutching his heart. Then he realizes that the others are joking with him and takes away his Bulgarian passport and kisses him. “Oh my Bulgarian passport – I will never give up on you!” “Let me kiss him too!” The deputy minister said in a sympathetic television nod to the Bulgarian-Macedonian bilateral relations.
