Karakachanov: The match for North Macedonia is over

The match is over, so Deputy Prime Minister Krassimir Karakachanov commented on the possibility that North Macedonia will continue to receive the green light from Bulgaria for EU membership. “In theory, there is a possibility if North Macedonia is ready to put the issue back on the agenda, but there is only one month left for the German presidency, so it is theoretically possible, but unlikely to happen,” he added.

Earlier this week, Bulgaria backed a negotiating framework for Albania’s accession to the EU, but not for North Macedonia. According to Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva, since the three conditions set for Skopje by Sofia have not been met, it is normal that Bulgaria is the only EU member not to schedule the first intergovernmental conference with North Macedonia. A month and a half ago, it is not known whether another country has supported Bulgaria’s position in the General Affairs Council.

For Karakachanov, the problem is that all Macedonian governments after 1991 thought they could continue the old anti-Bulgarian ideology. According to him, the current Prime Minister Zoran Zaev is the politician who has the most moderate and reasonable language. “If you compare the Bulgarian media with the Macedonian, we are like CNN. Theirs is a gossip in which they are offended,” summarized Krassimir Karakachanov.

He believes that all Bulgarian governments have made the same mistake for 30 years. “We thought that once our cause was just and the trials were on our side, there was no need to make an effort to promote our position around the world. At the same time, millions of people are being separated from Yugoslavia and now Macedonia. ; 4 million a year from North Macedonia – the last ten years from a single lobbying organization in the United States, “added Karakachanov.

I have no regrets and will not apologize for Djambazki

He justified the actions of MEP Angel Djambazki, dropping pirates and wetting the protesters gathered in front of the IMRO headquarters. Karakachanov added that the attack was not accidental and the protesters were not the ones who protested during the summer. “We have an attempt to enter private property and Angel Djambazki defends it. I would do the same. His actions are reciprocal to those of the protesters,” he said. “I have no regrets and I will not apologize for what happened,” Krassimir Karakachanov said.
