Families with children under the age of 14 who are distance learning in a school or daycare may also receive specific assistance from the state due to the restrictive measures introduced against COVID-19. This is provided by changes in the Regulations for the implementation of the Social Assistance Law, which were approved by the government, announced the press service of the Council of Ministers.
Until now, the aid was granted in the event that children synchronously study remotely in an electronic environment or do not attend nurseries and kindergartens, as well as preschool groups due to the quarantine imposed by the coronavirus. The adopted amendments will expand the circle of parents who will be entitled to receive such assistance from the state. All families with children under the age of 14 who study remotely are eligible, regardless of whether it occurs in an electronic environment.
In order for the support to reach more families, the income limit for accessing assistance is also raised. It is currently BGN 610. With the changes adopted by the government, the income limit will be equal to 150% of the minimum wage per family member or BGN 915. Another relief is that the determination of the average monthly income of a family member will be calculated based on the income made in the month for which the restrictions against COVID-19 were introduced.
Requests for assistance will be sent to the Social Assistance Directorates at the current address. This can be done electronically and by mail. For families with a child under the age of 14, the assistance will be equal to the country’s minimum wage, which in 2020 is BGN 610. For families with two or more children, the amount will be 150% of the minimum wage: BGN 915 this year. . BGN 73 million is foreseen for the payment of the aid in 2021.
