President Rumen Radev refuses to appoint former Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov as ambassador to Romania, Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva told BNT.

According to her, the reason for this is political and not related to Mitov’s biography and professional qualities.

“I think this is a grave mistake on the part of the president. There is no country in the world to which a former foreign minister is proposed and sent and does not consider it an honor. I cannot make a better proposal for Romania than Daniel Mitov “. Zaharieva commented.

She has already extended the current Bulgarian ambassador’s business trip to Bucharest and will think of someone else to offer for the position, as she accepts that Radev will not change his position at Mitov.

Minister Zaharieva added that the Foreign Ministry had already sent its proposals for new diplomatic appointments abroad in July, and the coordination procedure with the president for many of them has been finalized in recent weeks. There are still “5-6 positions”, to which Rumen Radev has objections. Zaharieva admitted that for “1-2” of them she agrees with the president and will look for a better proposal.

Our Foreign Minister was outraged that it became natural that diplomatic rotations did not take place; Since July, Radev has shown that he does not want to approve of Mitov. Zaharieva admitted that she would make another proposal because that was the procedure. He also said that he knew why Radev did not want Mitov, but did not comment in detail, but said that there is no greater honor for a country to have an ambassador who is foreign minister. Angel Cholakov, who has also been rumored, will be ambassador to Turkey, until now he was ambassador to France.
