The creator of the jazz festival in Bansko, Dr. Emil Iliev died.

The news was announced by the festival team, which this year celebrated its 23rd edition.

The first international music forum was organized in 1998.

According to Dr. Emil Iliev, it all started earlier, in the early 90s, in a hotel located in the Betolovoto area, 14 kilometers from Bansko.

Dr. Iliev was born in 1947. He is a dermatologist and acupuncturist. He is honorary president of the Bulgarian Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The news about the death of Dr. Iliev was announced on his Facebook account by Bulfoto’s boss Evgeni Dimitrov:

“Dr. Emil Iliev, the man who created and ran the Bansko Jazz Fest for almost a quarter of a century, is gone.

We were not very close to him, he was a sharp person, but he always openly marked his working conditions, he never lied to us, and in the end it is the reason why every year we spend the wonderful August holidays, among favorite music and friends with similar tastes. .

He once told me about the infinitely complex scheme by which he managed to accommodate musicians and many journalists in hotels to make the festival happen, and I took my hat off to combine it.

This year he was furious about the whole coronavirus situation, but he wanted a festival, and there was a festival.

Will you be there next year? I hope to find people who, united, can achieve what he has achieved only for 23 years ”.
