The Belgian team achieved a decisive 2: 0 victory against England in another match in Group 2 of League A, managing to secure first place in the final standings, one day before the end. The goals of Roberto Martínez’s boys were scored by Yuri Tillemans and Dries Mertens.
In the second minute, Gareth Southgate’s boys had a good chance to score. After a good individual evaluation by the center, star Harry Kane found himself in a shooting position, but from about 20 meters he did not hit the door of Thibaut Courtois.
However, the hosts of Roberto Martínez responded and managed to take the lead in the 10th minute. After a stolen ball, near the guests’ penalty area, the ball landed at the feet of Yuri Tillemans, who with a powerful shot from more 20 meters did not give Jordan Pickford a chance by 1: 0.
Just two minutes later, Kane had another chance after a cross, but Romelu Lukaku somehow literally cleared the goal line to keep his team’s lead.
Despite the pressure of the “three lions”, Belgium was the team that reached a new goal. In the 230th minute Dries Mertens got behind a direct free kick and with a perfect performance set Pickford up for the second time.
At the end of the first half, Kane got another good chance after a Jack Greenish pass, but his shot in the lower left corner was brilliantly parried by Thibaut Courtois.
After the break, the Southeight guys pushed hard, but aside from a few shuffles in the first 20 minutes, they managed to say goodbye to a single weak and accurate shot from Harry Kane.
At the end of the game, the boys from the Island never managed to create a real goal situation, which allowed the “red devils” to congratulate themselves on their success. Thus, the group also won, after adding an asset of 12 points in 5 games, while Denmark was left with 8, after the draw with Iceland in the other group game – 1: 1.
