In Svishtov, the municipal hospital is in a state of emergency. Without doctors or nurses, patients are treated by rehabilitators and physical therapists.
The COVID compartment is on the first floor with 15 beds. In less than a month, around 70 patients have passed through him, and his treatment is carried out without a doctor in the ward – for 25 days the patients are cared for by a nurse who voluntarily entered the ward – he becomes ill and is replaced by another nurse which also happens to be a coronavirus.
The patients were found without the care of a doctor and the mayor of Svishtov came as a volunteer, but fell ill and was quarantined. He said that he came to give moral support to the only nurse who cared for the sick.
“It was hell in the room, there was a situation at night with a patient with a high fever who did not respond to the medication and we had to lower the temperature with ice,” said Mayor Gencho Genchev.
A physiotherapist, who also assists a nurse, comes to the hospital for help. He witnessed the death of a patient, put on the oxygen mask himself and looked at the monitor.
The acting manager of a municipal hospital, Ilian Venkov, also entered the ward due to the lack of doctors. He explained that there is a partial visit by specialists, but in the internal ward there are still people of extreme age with illnesses.
A Sliven infectious disease physician is on the phone 24 hours a day to assist the emergency department.
The mayor and the hospital want to send doctors, and the responsible departments have also raised the alarm.
