Salty fines on the road from today

Starting today, the Traffic Police will impose fines for inappropriate tires, faulty lights and windshield wipers.

The penalty for drivers whose tires have a tread of less than 4 mm is BGN 50. The same is the value of the fine for defective headlights and dimensions. However, for faulty brake systems, the penalties can be very severe, reaching up to BGN 500.

The main recommendations of the traffic police for safe driving in winter conditions:

– use of tires intended for winter conditions or tires with a tread depth not less than or equal to 4 mm during the period between November 15 and March 1 in accordance with the Traces Law;

– equip 3 and 4-wheeled vehicles with the mandatory first aid kit, safety triangle, fire extinguisher and reflective vest;

– vehicle equipment and other means to travel safely in winter such as: snow chains, blanket, shovel, battery charger, tow rope;

– fill with antifreeze

– replacement of the windscreen washer fluid with non-freezing detergent, – checking the operating status of the heating system;

– inspection of light sources and retro-reflective signaling of the vehicle;

– add reflective elements to pedestrian clothing;

– use of underpasses, overpasses and pedestrian paths to cross safely;

– The use of reflective vests by cyclists is mandatory when driving outside populated areas, during the dark part of the day and with reduced visibility;

– recommendations for individual electric vehicle drivers and other recommendations.
