Lubomir Lozanov, 36, detained in Ladispoli, 50 kilometers north of Rome, had previously tried to hide from the police in the bathroom of the apartment where he lived.

According to the newspaper Corriere della Sera, the Bulgarian couple who took him in probably did not know that a European arrest warrant was seeking him. Lozanov, who is the alleged killer of Antonia Ventsislavova de Radomir, 30, has been in hiding in Italy for several months.

In June, he was detained for inspection and identified by the carabinieri carabinieri, but at that time there was still no information about him in their system. It was only after the end of the summer that the Bulgarian authorities entered his name into the European police system, which was wanted for the murder and dismemberment of Antonia’s body in January 2020. Now the carabinieri investigators quickly located him in Ladispoli.

So on November 12 they went to the apartment of the Bulgarian couple who took him in. When the carabinieri rang the bell, Lozanov hid and locked himself in the bathroom. After authorities threatened to break down the door, Lozanov opened it and allowed himself to be handcuffed. He was then taken to Rieti prison. He must appear before the investigating judge within a few days to confirm his arrest and allow the extradition requested by Bulgaria.

It is still unclear when exactly Lozanov arrived in Italy, either in January or after the end of restrictive measures due to COVID-19 in May and the opening of the borders. It is believed that he had accomplices hidden in Italy.
