The prototype of the Bulgarian vaccine against COVID-19 will be ready by the end of the year. This was told to BTV by Professor Penka Petrova, director of the Institute of Microbiology of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

Viral proteins have already been selected to act against them, and once the prototype is ready, tests in mice and humans will begin to test how immunogenic and safe the vaccine is, Petrova added.

Regarding Pfizer, he explained that this vaccine is difficult to store while ours is protein.

“Pfizer will be transported on dry ice and must be stored down to minus 70 degrees, in a common refrigerator it will last up to 5 days, which means that special storage media must be purchased,” explained the specialist.

Professor Petrova also commented on the measures, calling them correct and explaining that the virus has mutated, making it more virulent, but less dangerous.

There are 7 vaccines in advanced stage, our country will also participate in the contracts for them, our quota is 13 million vaccines, which according to the director of the Institute of Microbiology of the BAS is too much for our country.
