In the last week, there have been almost no fines or acts for violating the restrictive measures in Sofia. 90% of everyone in the city meets the requirements, Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova told BTV.

Fandakova confirmed that at the end of the week there will be 7-8 Diagnostic and Consulting Centers in the capital, in which coronavirus examination units will work. “This is being done to reduce the workload of hospitals and help general practitioners and patients,” added the mayor.

He noted that municipal hospitals are constantly opening new beds for the treatment of coronavirus patients. “We do not have the right to have a limit of patients, after which there will be no place to accommodate them,” said the mayor of Sofia in response to a question. Fandakova added that the big challenge is treating other people, not just those with coronavirus.

Regarding online education, the mayor said that from tomorrow until the end of the month this will be a given for students in grades 6-12. For the youngest, this will be introduced in schools with 15% absent due to coronavirus. There are currently no schools of this type in Sofia. “Our opinion is that, in very extreme cases, young students and children in nurseries should stay at home,” he added.
