The vaccine against the new coronavirus, developed by the US company Pfizer and the German company Biontek, may protect patients with COVID-19
for at least a year, Fox News reported.
This was stated to the cameras by the CEO and co-founder of “Biontek” Ugur Shahin, reported BTA.
“I hope the vaccine will be effective for at least a year,” he said, emphasizing that its re-administration could take place a year after the first vaccination.
According to him, the development of the preparation began at the end of January. In March, Biontech announced its partnership with Pfizer. Shahin recalled that the vaccine has undergone clinical trials in both Germany and the United States. This development represents an important step in the fight against the pandemic at a time when there is a worldwide increase in new cases of infection.
On Monday, manufacturers released interim results of clinical trials, which show the vaccine is more than 90 percent effective.
