20 years after one of the most brutal murders in our country, Denitsa Petrova, from Novi Pazar, 6 years old, a new tragedy happened in her family. The girl’s father, Plamen Petrov, 53, committed suicide and his neighbors said the man never managed to sympathize with his son, Monitor reported.

Little Denichka's killer has been writing complaints for 17 years.

According to unofficial information, Plamen Petrov made two more suicide attempts over the years, but without success. On Wednesday the man was found in the basement hanging by a rope from a leash.

Denitsa, 6, was the victim of pedophile Iliya Iliev, 53. At noon on December 31, 2000, the girl went out to play. Denichka plays alone because there are no children her age in the nearby houses. The girl has two brothers, one 10 years old and the other a baby, 15 months old.

Hours pass and the child does not come home. The parents, Elena and Plamen Petrovi, panic. The whole town rushes to find the girl.

A report was made to the police. Dozens of uniformed and gendarmerie officers were dispatched. The search lasted five days. The version of the kidnapping for ransom was rejected at first: Denitsa’s family is poor and has no money.

On 5 January, around 9:30 a.m., the gendarmerie officers found the girl’s body in a swamp near the town of Mogila in Shumen. Denitsa was raped, anally and vaginally, and then strangled.

A few hours later, criminal investigators arrested the brutal perpetrator, Iliya Haralampiev Iliev, 53, in the Galata district of Varna. Two days later the killer makes full confessions and tells the sinister story.

In April 2001, the pedophile appeared in court. After a three-day trial, he was found guilty sentenced to life in prison without parole. Iliya Iliev has to pay the blackened parents BGN 25,000 for non-pecuniary damages.

The killer appealed. Without results. In March 2002, a panel of the Supreme Court of Cassation chaired by Bozhidar Suknarov upheld the decision of the Varna Court of Appeal, which sentenced Iliya Iliev to life imprisonment without parole under a strict regime.

Since then, Iliev has been in solitary confinement in Belene Prison. Over the years, there have been rumors that he committed suicide in his cell and was killed by other inmates. However, none of them are true.
