OFFICIAL: BFU halted soccer championships in Bulgaria due to coronavirus

Due to the deterioration of the epidemiological situation in the country and the large number of new registered cases of COVID-19 infection in children and youth soccer, the leadership of the Bulgarian Soccer Union decided to temporarily suspend the state elite youth soccer championships under 15 and under 17. as well as the competition in the BFU Cup tournament. This was announced by the headquarters.

The decision, which was made after consultation with all zonal and regional structures of the football union, as well as on the recommendation of the Medical Commission of the Bulgarian Football Union, comes into effect on 13 November 2020.

The remaining matches of the U15, U17 championships, as well as the ongoing BFU Cup tournaments for children, youth and seniors, will be played in the spring of 2021.

All the local BFU structures continue to be in daily contact with the regional health authorities and are ready to take additional measures, including a temporary suspension of championships in other ages and amateur football groups.

Following a proposal from the Professional Soccer League and again in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Bulgarian soccer, BFU decided in tournament matches between professional and amateur soccer teams, their participants (players, coaches and employees of relevant clubs) to are required to submit negative results of a PCR test for COVID-19 performed no earlier than November 1, 2020. Otherwise, the latter will be considered irregular and will not be admitted to the corresponding meeting.
