The specialized prosecutor’s office is involved in the neutralization of an international criminal group organized by the illegal distribution of television programs through IP television, cybercrime and money laundering, announced the press center of the State Prosecutor’s Office.
The group operates in 11 European countries: Italy, Germany, Sweden, Malta, Lithuania, Greece, the Netherlands, France, Romania, Slovenia and Bulgaria, and has generated significant criminal revenues.
In 2019, a file was opened in the Special Prosecutor’s Office on the basis of a European Investigation Order sent by the Bulgarian National Office to Eurojust, issued by the Republican Prosecutor’s Office in the court of Naples, Italy. The order is related to a criminal proceeding initiated by the Naples prosecutor’s office against a criminal group organized by audiovisual piracy through the broadcasting of television programs, film productions and payment programs protected by copyright on the Internet. The investigations have been carried out by investigators from the Investigations Department of the Special Prosecutor’s Office and inspectors from the CDCOC.
On the basis of subsequent European investigation orders from the prosecution in Naples, on November 10, 2020, a simultaneous implementation was carried out on the territory of the 11 European countries.
Under the direction and supervision of the Special Prosecutor’s Office on the territory of Bulgaria, searches and seizures were carried out in the office of a trading company based in Petrich, run by two foreign nationals, investigated as participants in the criminal group. From there, as well as from the offices in Sofia, Yambol and Montana, related to criminal activity, servers, decoders, routers, laptops and other equipment were seized, as well as a huge volume of documents. Bank accounts managed by group participants, as well as personal property, were seized.
For its work to neutralize the international criminal group on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Special Prosecutor’s Office received high praise from the Republican Prosecutor’s Office at the Naples court and Eurojust.
