I am very satisfied with what I saw at the meeting of the Council of Ministers. Of all those gathered there, Prime Minister Borissov thought he was the most sober, even wiser, than the professors. What I saw gave me hope that we could cope with the pandemic. This was stated by adjunct professor Atanas Mangarov, head of the Covid department of the Sofia Infectious Diseases Hospital in the BTV program “Face to Face”.

“There were disputes. I maintain that countries that closed much earlier have much worse medical outcomes than we do. Also, we are less economically affected than other countries.” It is an airborne infection that cannot combat the closure, “he said.
“There are people who are happy to see me. The people who seek me need help and are satisfied,” said Professor Mangarov on the occasion of the people who asked him to resign.
“There are people in the COVID wards who have more serious symptoms. Those who really need to be in the hospital in the COVID ward with me are not more than 30 people out of a total of 80. There are those who are in hospitals out of fear,” he explained the infectious disease specialist.
“In viral infections, the acute phase of the disease ends in a maximum of 5 to 10 days. In COVID, the acute phase is about 15 days. That is to say approximately three times more. The only point is that a person goes to the hospital if they have respiratory failure or need intubation. You may be given 2-3 antibiotics, but they won’t affect your lung changes. According to him, even patients with bacterial bronchopneumonia can be treated at home. There is no definitive treatment for COVID-19. There is a technological time during which the disease progresses and the patient must stay alive, “explained associate professor Atanas Mangarov.
“Patients arrive as dry as raisins from dehydration. The first thing a patient like this should do is calm down and not expect to recover before the 15th day. He has to stay home, rest, tranquility is very important. This heals as a broken leg – you lie down and wait for it to pass. This person should drink enough fluids, take medications that do not clot the blood, such as aspirin or antistenocardin. If they have a headache, take a pain reliever. The patient’s temperature should not drop below immediate, because it is a protective reaction of the body. If there is no change at the end of the treatment, it is good to call a doctor, “said the doctor.
“Pre-hospital care has abdicated its obligations. General practitioners must stand in their places and treat. Enough with this telephone medicine. These are doctors and if they do not fulfill their duties, there will be no need for them,” Prof. Asoc. Mangarov.
“The quarantine measures must be relaxed. There is no use of them. Life must continue, but measures must be taken. We have to learn to live with this virus,” said the head of the COVID department.
“In COVID-19, it is not the bacterial complications that die, but the viral ones. No one needs to be admitted to the hospital with a positive test. When the hospital is full, there will be no one to take care of them. In the end, the rate of mortality is not that high, “he said.
At the end of the conversation, he revealed that his last COVID-19 test was negative.
