PFC Black Sea expresses its condolences to the relatives of one of the club’s greatest legends, Todor Atanasov, who passed away on November 8 at the age of 66. The Baron remains in the history of the Varna club as one of the best midfielders that the “sailors” team dressed. He will forever remain in the hearts of older generation fans as the midfielder, who scores from free throws with his left foot.

Todor Atanasov was born on March 31, 1954 in Kazanlak. He grew up in the school of the local Rose Valley club, where he later played 5 years in the first team.

In the summer of 1977, at the age of 23, Atanasov moved to CSKA. He made his debut with the “Army” on August 19, 1977, in the third round of the 1977/78 season, in a 5: 2 victory at home against Botev (Vratsa). He recorded a full 90 minutes and scored CSKA’s fourth goal of the match.

Atanasov remained in the team for two seasons, in which, however, he rarely found a place in the team. He recorded a total of 13 matches with 3 goals in Group A and 3 matches in the UEFA Cup.

In the early 1980s, Atanasov moved to the Black Sea (Varna) and stayed with the club for the next 12 years.
For the Sea there are 375 games and 74 goals – 258 games with 49 goals in group “A” and 117 games with 25 goals in group “B”.

He played 1 game for the “B” national team and 1 game for the youth team.
