It should be clear within hours what is happening to children in schools after the call from Chief State Health Inspector Angel Kunchev for fifth to seventh grade students to receive online training to pass. Until now, the Ministry of Education has been trying to avoid centralized measures, and local crisis headquarters are calculating when and for how long to move to online training in the municipality or district.
The Ministry of Education has opted for a local approach to closing schools and doing so through the regional headquarters. Principals shall have the right to introduce distance learning for large numbers of absent students or when requested by parents and teachers. So far, 64 schools have taken advantage of this option. It is not yet clear if the seventh grade students will return to school. However, this is not expected to happen.
Some of the schools in our country have decided not to wait for the decision of the health authorities and to extend the online lessons for their own high school students. And some have introduced a remote form for the youngest from high school.
