Bulgaria’s blockade of North Macedonia by the EU will ruin relations between the two countries for decades to come. This is the position of the PP AUA.
The reason for his statement is the decision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria to block the negotiation framework between the Republic of North Macedonia and the EU at yesterday’s meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to the Council of the Union European.
Consequences are unlikely to live up to expectationswrites from the Agricultural Party.
Ekaterina Zaharieva: There is no way to say “yes” to Skopje now
According to her, the cabinet is united on the Macedonian issue
Farmers do not deny that the concerns of our Chancellor Ekaterina Zaharieva are justified, due to the fact that Macedonia does not comply with the so-called Ilinden Treaty of friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia.
According to the farmers, the main point cited as a reason for blocking the negotiations is stop the work of the Mixed Multidisciplinary Commission and the refusal to build infrastructure to connect the two sides.
Skopje: it is unacceptable that Gotse Delchev is registered as Bulgarian
According to Dragi Georgiev, co-chair of the joint commission …
“Perhaps it is fair to admit that our historical notions are also distorted by propaganda. both from the communist regime and from the point of view of a small group of historians, members of the DS, who in recent years have received the media monopoly as interpreters. In terms of infrastructure connectivity, Bulgaria is also lagging behind with the construction of many projects such as the Klepalo border checkpoint, writes the party of the former Defense Minister (2014-2017 in the second cabinet “Borisov”) Nikolay Nenchev.
The AAU’s position is that Bulgaria must find a common language with intellectuals, writers and public figures in our southwestern neighbor, without taking into account that many of them are strongly influenced by propaganda and challenge the nationality of Gotse Delchev.
We remember, former Minister of Culture Petar Stojanovic said publicly that North Macedonia is a randomly created state, nation and language.
“Bulgaria can and must find a common language. The change of understanding It will be slow, long and painful, but today’s leadership, represented by Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and President Stevo Pendarovski, has given some important signs of readiness for change. The blockade imposed by Bulgaria will destroy relations between the two countries. Sofia’s action will be perceived as an extremely hostile act by all Macedonian society, even by people with shy Bulgarians or with a conscious Bulgarian origin.“writes the Agrarian Union of Bulgaria without mentioning Greece’s long-term steps to protect its interests in its disputes with North Macedonia, not even over the country’s name.
Stopping negotiations with the EU could lead to the suspension of the Neighborhood and Friendship Treaty and, more importantly, to lead to the fall of the pro-European government of Zoran Zaev.
When we talk about a common history with the people of the Republic of North Macedonia, we must realize that what we are doing today will also go down in history, writes the Agrarian Union of Bulgaria.
We remind you that the multidisciplinary joint commission of experts on historical and educational issues of Bulgaria and North Macedonia was established as a result of the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighbor and Cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia, signed on August 1, 2017 and which came into effect on February 14. 2018
The first meeting of the commission made little headway on Antiquity and the Middle Ages, but no agreement was reached on the Gotse Delchev issue.
The stumbling block in the work of the experts is precisely the personality of Gotse Delchev. The Bulgarian side of the commission refused to accept the two countries together to celebrate the feast of the legendary figure and ideologue of IMRO on October 7, when his bones were delivered to Skopje by Georgi Dimitrov.
In early October, Bulgaria established the conditions for North Macedonia to receive our support for membership of the EU. One of them is North Macedonia to achieve concrete results on the subject of important events and historical figures in our common history: Gotse Delchev, Ilinden-Preobrazhensko uprising and others.
Following the September 13 meeting, which has been described as “the most unsuccessful” to date, President Rumen Radev called an urgent consultative meeting, in which he insisted that red lines be drawn for North Macedonia.
On May 2, 2020, it became clear that Macedonia had unilaterally ended the talks on our common history.
After a pause on October 16, 2020, the Bulgarian-Macedonian Joint Commission for Historical Affairs has made progress in developing a common position on the May 24 issue, the writing and work of Saints Brothers Cyril and Methodius. This is the only one of the 14 notes related to history textbooks that has progressed.
