Since the signing of the Agreement on August 1, 2017, Bulgaria’s position is very clear. It was also confirmed very clearly and unequivocally with the Framework Position of October 9 last year and was unanimously approved by the Bulgarian Parliament.
Therefore, we cannot move from a position that is a decision of the Bulgarian Parliament. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Krassimir Karakachanov, on the occasion of the position of our country in the course of the North Macedonia negotiations for accession to the EU.
Unfortunately, colleagues from Skopje underestimated the situation, they trusted someone else to do their job, and Bulgaria, as always, has made concessions in the name of good relations, that we have some brotherly feelings. This time, however, there is nowhere to give up and there is no need to give up, because practice shows that good intentions are not shared.
Commenting on the statement by the North Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev that Bulgaria has violated the agreement, Karakachanov said: This only convinces me that he and most of the ministers clearly do not read the documents they have signed. Article 2 makes it very clear that Bulgaria will support Macedonia in meeting the criteria. One of the criteria is to resolve bilateral problems with neighbors, but they are clearly not willing. Skopje not only respects Article 2, but the entire Treaty.
