After the terrorist attack on Monday that killed four and injured 23 people, representatives of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Religion called a crisis meeting with representatives of the Islamic denomination, in which it was decided to close two mosques and two Islamic organizations .

The attacker visited the two mosques regularly and is believed to have become radicalized there. One was under the auspices of the Organization of Islamic Religion in Austria, Religions Minister Suzana Raab said at a press conference.

Specifically, it involves deprivation of legal rights and dissolution of organizations, which is in the interest of public security, since the “positive attitude towards society and the State” required by Islamic law has not been met.

“From our point of view, our intervention is justified,” Interior Minister Karl Nehammer told a news conference. “Such actions are always a very delicate case, but they are within the rule of law.”

In addition, the Interior Minister announced the first personal consequences for the Vienna Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Fight against Terrorism following the police errors linked to Monday’s attack. The head of the service will leave his post.

Nehamer provided additional information on searches abroad: four house searches were carried out in Germany and the Federal Criminal Service is investigating the case.
