The State Institute of Infectious Diseases has reported 214 cases of transmission of the new coronavirus from mink to humans, TASS reported.
The cases were detected after an investigation carried out between June 8 and October 18. It was during this period that the new coronavirus infection broke out among minks in Denmark. Unable to control the situation, Danish authorities on Wednesday decided to destroy 17 million minks in 1,139 kennels, BTA reported.
More than a quarter of a million Danes in the affected area in the north of the country, where minks were infected with a mutated strain of the coronavirus, have been quarantined, the Associated Press reported. The measure is in effect in 7 municipalities with a total population of 280,000, Prime Minister Mete Frederiksen said. Cultural and sporting events have been suspended, public transportation is closed, and regional borders are closed. At the same time, Britain has pulled Denmark out of the so-called travel corridor and people coming from Danish territory will now have to isolate themselves, Reuters reported.
