In the 2014/15 season, CSKA hit one of its most embarrassing spots in Europe. The Reds, led by club legend Stoycho Mladenov, were eliminated from Zimbru Moldova. After 1: 1 in Sofia and 0: 0 as guests. I was at the party in Chisinau. CSKA did not resemble itself and did not hinder the opponent in any way. He withdrew completely deservedly.
Then came the bankruptcy of the old company and a one-season stay with the fans. The “Army” became the first Bulgarian team to win the Bulgarian Cup in group “B”. We will hardly ever see another team achieve this … The 2016 Cup is the only trophy so far for CSKA with Grisha Ganchev. On several occasions, the 31-time champion was close, but also far from the coveted title №32. This year, the Reds could have added another Cup, but lost the final to Lokomotiv (Plovdiv) on penalties.
However, Ganchev returned CSKA to the map of Europe. The “Army” once again impressed the Old Continent with a good game and significant successes. Hopefully it will be the same against the Young Boys in Switzerland. In the country where CSKA has already touched the sky: a 3: 1 win over Basel and a place in the Europa League groups.
The “Reds” returned to the big stage in the 2018/19 season, and the beginning was difficult: a 1-0 win over Latvian Riga at home, a defeat with the same result on the road and continuing into the next round with penalties. There, CSKA beat Austrian Admira twice: 3: 0 and 3: 1. Being eliminated in the third qualifying round in Copenhagen – two losses with 1: 2, for both “helped” the judges.

CSKA stopped in the Europa League at the same stage of the tournament next year, this time losing to Ukrainian Zorya – 1: 1 and 0: 1. Referees again hampered, especially the rematch in Zaporozhye. Previously, the “Army” eliminated Titograd from Montenegro (4: 0 and 0: 0) and Osijek from Croatia – 1: 0 and 0: 1, a success in the penalty shoot-out.
CSKA has improved significantly this season and deservedly found a place in the groups. After eliminating 4 consecutive rivals: 2: 1 over Sirens from Malta, 2: 0 over BATE from Belarus, 3: 1 over B36 from the Faroe Islands and Basel from Switzerland. So far in the groups, CSKA disappointed in the “Vasil Levski” stadium – 0: 2 in Romanian Cluj, after which they reached a prestigious zero draw against Roma in the “Olimpico”, and even came very close to the victory. And time and again, the Belarusian judge intervened. At the end of the match, he did not make a mandatory advance in a situation where two members of the “Army” were left in front of a Roma defender and the goalkeeper.

Thus, CSKA played 18 games in the Europa League with Grisha Ganchev at the helm. Win 9, half of them. It reached 3 draws. Two of the 6 defeats are irrelevant, because with them the team went ahead after penalties. Copenhagen is the only team that managed to beat CSKA twice in this period: 2: 1. The goal difference is 25:14 in favor of the “Army”, and no one scored more than two goals at the “red” gate.
Not bad! However, fans believe in this: the best is yet to come!
