See who they are
GPs must refer a PCR test for at least five COVID-19 symptoms in a patient. It proposes to the NHIF a draft contract for the modification of the national framework contract 2020-2022, sent to the Bulgarian Medical Union. A referral for testing may be possible if the patient has at least five of the symptoms that have recently appeared: fever; cough – mostly dry; severe fatigue; loss of taste and / or smell; shortness of breath or shortness of breath; myalgia; oxygen saturation less than 92% (or less than 88% for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
On behalf of the patient: GPs on the edge of the system
“When it was the end of August, we proposed to name PCR according to criteria, the idea was to have four of them, and it was explicitly pointed out that this is subject to discussion, as the situation is changing,” he said on the air of “Hello, Bulgaria”. Mr. Lyubomir Kirov, President of the Association of General Practitioners. “The situation has really changed, because now we have the so-called rapid antigenic tests, which are accurate up to 90 percent, like PCR tests. They are cheaper, they do not require special equipment. So these criteria must be rethought and there must two or at most three ”, Dr. Kirov is categorical.
Infectious Disease Specialist: Remdesivir must be given early to take effect.
“We recommend using antigen tests under the new conditions and using the PCR test when the antigen test is negative, but the patient continues to have complaints or worsens,” Dr. Kirov said.
“I think these criteria will be changed and reason will prevail. The goal is for infected people to be isolated and stay home as late as possible. It makes a difference to get a result after 20 minutes, not after two days. I can’t say what the purpose of the NHIF is with increasing the number of criteria, but if it is saving money … it may cost us dearly later, “said Dr. Kirov.
