Only 8 out of 7334 positives for the March 13 period

as of October 30, now only 1 is infected, but no symptoms

Only 8 prisoners and detainees tested positive for COVID-19 from March 14 to October 30, and now there is only one active case. This was said by the Deputy Minister of Justice, Prof. Nikolay Prodanov, for “24 Chasa”, who asked for information on whether the pandemic is spreading in places of imprisonment. There are 6,385 prisoners in Bulgaria and 949 detainees, or a total of 7,334 people. “It’s normal for positives to be negligible compared to outsiders. The only preventive measure we’re trying to follow right now is social exclusion. And these people are generally socially isolated. No one has been admitted to an outside hospital for treatment “said Professor Prodanov, who is in charge of prisons and arrests. The latest case of a prisoner with COVID-19 is that of a man from Sofia prison. They accompanied him to the Ministry of the Interior hospital, but refused to hospitalize him there.

and no symptoms

The prison management has asked the Sofia City Prosecutor to suspend his sentence for 14 days and he is now at home. You will return to your cell once you recover. Of the 8 people attacked, two were arrested; in Sofia and Vidin, the rest were incarcerated in various prisons. The picture with the infected employees of the Directorate General for the Execution of Penalties is not so optimistic. For 7 and a half months until October 30, the positive number is 68 people, and the active cases are now 34. This given that the employees of the directorate responsible for prisons are significantly less than the number of prisoners. “Our employees are outside, they have different contacts. The situation with them cannot be different from that of all other citizens. Positive evidence has been identified both in supervisory and security personnel and in administration, including the head of a senior position, ”says Deputy Minister Prodanov. Twenty-five employees of the General Directorate of Security, which guards court buildings and escorts detainees and prisoners, tested positive. As of October 30, 14 cases are active. The prison administration and the direction of the Ministry of Justice continue to carry out active preventive activities. Isolation facilities have been established in places of detention to house people with positive symptoms and tests. There is a high level of supply of masks and disinfectants everywhere. Until mid June

there was none

or a detainee

In the spring, serious measures were taken in places of detention, which paid off. Visits were severely restricted and most were carried out remotely with computers in prisons. For a long time the removal of external work sites for those who have the right to do so, as well as events with the concentration of many people, was stopped. After the flexibility of the measures in the country, this was also followed by imprisonment, but despite physical visits and work from external sites, discipline and social isolation did not allow the infection to take hold of the cells.
