18 years in prison for the murderer of Andrea de Galiche. This was decided by the court in a two-day trial, announced the press center of the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office in Sofia.
“According to the indictment of the District Prosecutor’s Office – Vratsa, the court found the defendant AO guilty, held criminally responsible as a minor for the criminal acts: murder committed by him in a particularly painful manner and with special cruelty towards the victim; rape; Penetration into someone else’s home at night, for which he used skill, and to steal things.
The trial was carried out under an abbreviated judicial investigation procedure (article 371, paragraph 1 of the PPC) at the request of the accused and his defense. AO, 18 years old. A sentence of eighteen years in prison was imposed under a “strict” prison regime. The civil claim amounting to BGN 200,000 was maintained.
Defendant AO was raised by his father’s parents in the Roma neighborhood of the town of Galiche. His mother lived in the Czech Republic and had no contact with him.
At around 00:30 on the night of January 11, 2020, the young man went out into the street, passing a neighboring house where AR, aged eighteen, lived, which he liked. The girl at that time was alone. His parents had been separated for ten years. She was cared for by her father, who went to work in Great Britain. Her mother, although she lived in the village, did not keep in touch with her daughter.
AO noticed a light in one of the rooms of AR’s house and decided to enter his house. He managed to get through a small window on the ground floor, which had broken glass, thus ending up in the basement. There he took a metal object (zhegl) with him. He came to an interior staircase to the girls’ room on the second floor. He knocked on the door, while AR unlocked and opened. The defendant told her that he wanted to “sleep with her.” She disagreed and yelled at him to leave. Scared by what was happening, R. took her phone to call for help, but at that moment AO hit her on the head with a metal object. The victim fell onto the bed, after which the attacker struck her again. The girl stopped moving her limbs. At the same time, R’s phone rang. The defendant took out the battery and threw it away.
So AO had sex with the victim. As he left he saw her move. He grabbed her by the neck and began to strangle her with both hands, which continued until she stopped showing signs of life. He then took the knife to the chest and hit him several times on the neck of AR, then cut his throat. He wrapped his body in blankets. He saw a purse in a locker, which he took, along with the amount of BGN 250 in it. With wet towels, he cleaned the knife, wrapped the metal object around it, and left. On the way he threw them out, went home and went to bed.
In the morning, AR’s lifeless body was discovered by cousins. The general emergency number 112 was immediately called. Police officers and a medical team arrived at the scene.
Meanwhile, AO visited a store in the center of town, where she bought sneakers, speakers, and gloves. He explained to the salesman that he had made money working in Sofia. Then he went to the village of Byala Slatina, bought a tablet with a case, a music column and returned to the village of Galiche. He was detained by the police that day. He confessed to the police, recounted in detail the acts committed and indicated the place where he threw the things.
The conviction can be appealed and protested to the Sofia Court of Appeal. “
