On Saturday afternoon, the Ivanovi family visited “Armira” near Ivaylovgrad, where there are ancient mosaics from 2000, but they found a wedding in the only preserved ancient Roman villa in our country.
“The wedding guests began to arrive and I was impressed that they did not comply at all with walking on the mosaics. All the women wore formal clothes, high heels, walked on the mosaics, essentially stepped on the artifacts of the museum, “he says in the first person about the scandalous case of Dimitar Ivanov.
The ritual of the newlyweds was in a place where walking was allowed, and the guests had to be on glass pallets. However, some of them chose to witness the ceremony in the so-called banquet hall, stepping on the unique mosaics. The man makes a comment to the official celebrating the marriage. It turns out that this is personally the mayor of the Ivaylovgrad municipality – Diana Ovcharova (GERB).
“Ms Ovcharova said it was not my job to deal with how the rules were followed. Later, she explained to visitors that the mosaics are strong and can get crowded,” says Ivanov.
The deputy mayor of Ivaylovgrad confirmed that a mistake was made in this case. Today the mayor is in the hospital. “The Ivaylovgrad municipality recognizes its mistake in allowing the mosaic to pile up. We assume this happened to meet the anti-epidemic requirements and the distance of five feet, ”explains Deputy Mayor Svetla Molova.
Tomorrow the Ministry of Culture will check if the monument of national importance has suffered damage. “This is definitely a violation of the Cultural Heritage Law, the Ivaylovgrad municipality, which manages the site, and must protect it from demolition, which definitely does not include walking on the mosaic,” said the regional inspector of the DG “Inspection of Cultural heritage protection ”in MK Slavi Slavov.
With a decision of the Ivaylovgrad City Council, for 50 leva, anyone can get married in “Villa Armira”. It is an old town is a cultural monument. One of only four in the world that are preserved to this day. It was discovered in 1964 during the construction of a dam.
It is called the “jewel of the eastern rhodopes”, even because of the fully preserved ancient mosaics. Some of them were restored 6 years ago, and the villa was completely renovated with almost two million European levs.
