Hamilton: I don’t know if I’ll be here next year

Lewis Hamilton said after his victory at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix that he did not know if he would be in Formula 1 in the 2021 season. This came in response to a question about what it would mean for his eventual future departure from Toto Wolf. The Austrian previously said he was considering who could replace him at the helm of Mercedes in F1.

“I don’t even know if I’ll be here next year so that doesn’t bother me now,” Hamilton said.

“We had very deep conversations with Toto and I am very aware of where he is in my mind. Also, I think that together we carry a heavy load. I have been here a long, long time. I can definitely understand the desire to step back, to spend more. time with your family, things like that. “

“I don’t know who would replace him, but he is the leader. He will not choose a person who cannot cope with the job, who is not enthusiastic enough or who is not prepared. That is why we achieved the success that we have. He found the people. He put them in the right positions so they could shine as brightly as possible. He empowers every person on this team to be the best. Then he will find someone who can carry on.

Hamilton reiterated once again that the team is not made up of a single person

“Toto did not build the car. This is a common effort. But I support him, whatever he decides to do in the future.”

The six-time world champion, who could claim his seventh crown in the upcoming 2020 season, added that there is no guarantee that he will stay in the sport.

“It’s already November, which is crazy, Christmas is not far away. I feel very good, very strong. I feel like it could go on for many months. But I don’t know. I would like to be here next year, but there certainly isn’t. guarantee of that. Many things in life after Formula 1 excite me. Then time will tell.

Hamilton’s current contract expires at the end of 2020. He has not signed a new one with Mercedes, although Wolff has repeatedly said it is a matter of time, not desire.
